Managed to squeeze another session in tonight. Huge improvement over earlier, in terms of play style and temperament. Solid play, mostly, with a few well timed counter bluffs and resteals. The tables were surprisingly sophisticated tonight

Not a fantastic session. I called too much and got caught in too many bluffs. Admittedly, I was bluffing too much because I was trying to get back to even, whihc was a pretty dumb strategy to begin with. Decided in the end to quit for the day, as I'm obviously not anywhere near my best right now.

This session just illustrates for me the importance of playing tight and being conservative. Yes, it is possible to win with a loose-aggressive style, and there were times when I felt I was on the edge of being able to do that successfully. But ultimately, at least at this level, where a lot of players struggle to lay down MPNK, I need to play tighter to keep progressing. Thanks to yesterday, I am still up, on the last couple of days.

No more updates for a while. I'm off to the Download festival tomorrow, so nothing until at least next Tuesday. Maybe even longer, as I'm at my parents for a week after that and they're not so comfortable with the internet poker deal.

Great session. I played very tight and the cards went my way. I did get very lucky early on, but I also think I played well, making the good hands pay, picking up a few steals and not getting crazy with my big stack. I'm happy.

I don't know if this went wrong because I played badly or because I just got unlucky. I do know that I was rivered three times on three-outers, but I also know I chased too much at times, and I wasn't as tight pre-flop as I could have been.

Back to the freerolls in an effort to rebuild this a little, I guess. Although if I'm able to play the PTips tourney tomorrow night, I'll have to make a deposit to d that and may well leave a couple of dollars behind to play FL with.

I decided the best way to build the money I have on stars (which came from a freeroll win) was to grind some micro-stakes fixed-limit. I've never played much fixed limit, although I think it's worth doing as a learning exercise. I can't imagine making it my main game. It was an enjoyable change, however, and it proved profitable.

Most of my edge seems to come from pre-flop hand selection, pot odds, and the ability to fold. It's frustrating not being able to test people with big bets, and there were a few situations I was unsure of (e.g. I have TPTK with two hearts on the flop. SB bets, BB calls, I raise, they call. Turn is a blank, SB bets, BB calls, I call. Turn fails to complete the flush, check to me. Should I bet what may well be the best hand, in case one of them paired their busted flush and will call?)

Overall, not a bad session.

I played well, I think, although I was very lucky at times (example was AJ flops top pair and hits runner-runner full house to bust pocket queens). Generally, my luck was in when I needed it for big pots, but wandered off during most of the small ones. Which is fine. I did play a couple of draws badly (especially one where I flopped a double draw like 4 678 T and paired my 8 on the turn. I chased to the river without the proper odds for the straight even though second pair probably wasn't going to be good here) but generally it was ok.

Now that I'm over the 2K mark, I feel a lot better about this new approach. I don't know that 17ptbb/100 is sustainable (it probably is, but not by me) but I suspect I can manage 10ptbb/100. Obviously 2154 hands is not a big enough sample size to draw any firm conclusions, but I'm happy with the situation so far.
